About Eco Church

St Luke’s supports A Rocha UK in their mission to equip Christians to protect and restore the environment – for God, nature and all people. To see land owned by denominations and networks, Christian organisations and Christian individuals being managed for nature. To see local churches and Christians engaged in deliberate and on-going action to protect nature and address climate change practically and by using their voice to speak up for change. To see the general public actively benefiting from access to nature on land owned or managed by churches, Christian organisations and individuals.

Eco Church is an online survey and supporting resources, which are designed to equip churches to express care for God’s world in worship and teaching; in looking after buildings and land; in engaging with the local community and in global campaigns; and in the personal lifestyles of the church congregation.

At St Luke’s we’ve formed a small Eco Church working group - Jan, Sue, Polly and Ian. We’ve assessed how we are doing using the Eco Church survey, and looked at what we can do.

We have beautiful grounds and want to make them better for nature and for visitors.

When the pandemic rules allow and groups can meet again in the Centre, we’d like to encourage childrens groups who use the Centre to use the church grounds to develop their understanding of, and care for nature.

When we get back into the church building, we want to ensure we are using it as sustainably as possible.

And we want to encourage church members and their families to live sustainably, and enjoy nature. Hence this blog.
